Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 1, 2025 | Last updated: June 1, 2025
SleepWell Guide ("we," "our," or "us") operates the website at sleep.youressentialinsights.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit our site, how we use it, and the choices you have. Please read it carefully.
Summary (TL;DR): We do not sell your personal data. We use standard analytics to understand how our content performs. We use cookies. We include affiliate links that may earn us a commission at no cost to you. You can opt out of analytics cookies at any time.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
SleepWell Guide is a content-only website. We do not operate user accounts, membership portals, or contact forms that submit data to our servers. If we add such features in the future, this policy will be updated accordingly.
If you email us directly at our contact address, we receive your email address and any information you include in your message. We use this only to respond to your inquiry and do not add you to any mailing list without your explicit consent.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you visit our site, certain technical information is collected automatically:
- Log data: Your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, time and date of visit, and time spent on pages. This is standard web server log data.
- Device information: Screen resolution, device type (desktop, mobile, tablet), and browser language settings.
- Analytics data: Aggregated behavioral data such as which articles are read, how users navigate between pages, and which tools are used. See Section 3 for details on our analytics provider.
1.3 Information from Third-Party Tools
Our interactive tools (sleep calculator, chronotype quiz, insomnia quiz, etc.) run entirely in your browser. The data you enter into these tools — such as your sleep hours, quiz answers, or bedtime — is never transmitted to our servers and is not stored anywhere beyond your current browser session. When you close or refresh the page, this data is gone.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Improving content: Analytics data helps us understand which articles are most useful, where users struggle to find information, and what topics to cover next.
- Site performance: Log data helps us identify technical errors, slow pages, or broken links.
- Security: IP address and request data help us identify and block abusive traffic, spam, or bot activity.
- Legal compliance: We may retain or disclose data if required by applicable law or valid legal process.
We do not use your data for:
- Selling to third parties
- Building advertising profiles
- Sending marketing emails (we do not have an email list)
- Targeted or behavioral advertising based on personal profiles
3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Cookies are small text files placed in your browser. We use the following categories of cookies:
| Category | Purpose | Can You Opt Out? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary | Required for the site to function (e.g., storing your cookie consent preference) | No — required for basic operation |
| Analytics | Google Analytics — counts page views, sessions, and user behavior in aggregate | Yes — decline via our cookie banner or browser settings |
| Advertising | Google AdSense — displays ads based on content context (not personal profiles unless consented) | Yes — decline via cookie banner or opt-out tools below |
3.1 Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our content. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish users and sessions. The data is anonymized and aggregated — we cannot identify you personally from analytics reports. We have enabled IP anonymization. Google's data practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
To opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
3.2 Google AdSense
We display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ad Settings or visit AboutAds.info.
3.3 Managing Cookies
You can control cookies through:
- Our cookie banner: Click "Decline" when the banner appears on your first visit. Your preference is saved in a strictly-necessary cookie for 365 days.
- Browser settings: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking all cookies may affect site functionality.
- Browser-specific guides: Chrome | Firefox | Safari | Edge
4. Affiliate Links and Disclosure
SleepWell Guide participates in affiliate advertising programs, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other product affiliate programs. This means that when you click certain product links on our site and make a purchase, we may earn a commission — at no additional cost to you.
Key facts about our affiliate relationships:
- Affiliate links are clearly indicated. We label them with language like "affiliate link," "we may earn a commission," or similar disclosure.
- Our editorial recommendations are not influenced by affiliate arrangements. We do not recommend products solely because they have higher commission rates.
- We do not share your purchase data with affiliate networks. When you click an affiliate link, you are leaving our site and the affiliate's privacy policy governs any data collected.
- Amazon affiliate links include a tracking tag in the URL so Amazon knows we referred you. Amazon's data practices are covered by the Amazon Privacy Notice.
This disclosure is made in compliance with the FTC's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 C.F.R. Part 255).
5. Third-Party Links
Our articles link to external websites, studies, and resources. When you click these links, you leave our site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies. We link to external sources for informational purposes only and cannot verify or guarantee their content.
6. Your Privacy Rights
6.1 GDPR (European Economic Area / UK Residents)
If you are located in the EEA or United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:
- Right of access: Request a copy of personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"): Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Right to restriction: Request that we limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
Our legal basis for processing analytics data is legitimate interest (understanding how our content performs) and consent (where you accept our cookie banner). You may decline analytics cookies at any time via the cookie banner or browser settings.
To exercise any of the above rights, contact us at the address in Section 10. We will respond within 30 days.
6.2 CCPA / CPRA (California Residents)

- Right to know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected about you.
- Right to delete: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to opt-out of sale: We do not sell personal information. There is no opt-out mechanism required because we do not engage in data sales.
- Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.
To make a CCPA request, contact us at the address in Section 10. We will respond within 45 days.
7. Children's Privacy
SleepWell Guide is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly. Our quiz and tool results are educational in nature; no data from any tool is transmitted to our servers regardless of the user's age.
8. Data Retention
Server log files are retained for up to 90 days for security and troubleshooting purposes, then deleted or anonymized. Analytics data retained by Google Analytics is subject to Google's data retention settings, which we have set to 14 months. Cookie consent preferences stored in your browser expire after 365 days.
9. Security
We implement standard technical measures to protect our site and the data processed through it. Our site is served over HTTPS (TLS encryption). However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. Because we do not store personal data on our servers (beyond server logs), the risk of a data breach affecting your personal information is minimal.
